The breadth and beauty of the wilderness is the inspiration for Mary Lynne Atkinson’s landscape paintings. Using plein aire sketches as the basis of her studio work, she creates artwork in oils and acrylic to convey her connection to the environment she finds in the features of the terrain. Her inspiration is often from her immediate surrounding which creates the challenge of depicting the beauty of the physical world.
She is inspired by Sargeant, Manet, Van Gogh, the Group of Seven and so many others. Occasionally, she will paint an homage such as Madame X or the Dejeuner sur l’herbe with a local twist such as using a local model and park as the setting instead of Paris. Her technique and subject matter are diverse…
Beautiful...landscapes, icebergs, still life, and figure artwork.
